NOTD - OPI "I Eat Mainely Lobster"

Ridiculous reason to buy a beauty product #246: I didn't own anything from the brand and the name made me giggle. It reminded me of an inside joke, but now it just reminds me of my ex-boyfriend (=FAIL).

Blödsinniger Grund, aus dem man ein Beautyprodukt kauft #246: Ich hatte noch nichts von der Marke und der Name löste in mir Kichern aus. Er erinnerte mich an einen Insiderwitz, doch jetzt erinnert er mich lediglich an meinen Ex-Freund (=FAIL).

Nevertheless it's a pretty shade for spring and summer and my very first OPI varnish, so it must be worn. "I Eat Mainely Lobster" is from the Touring America collection which was released for autumn 2011, but I still saw it in a shop last Friday, so you might still be able to get your hands on it if you'd like to.

Dennoch handelt es sich um eine schöne Frühlings- /Sommerfarbe und es ist mein allererster OPI Nagellack, also muss er getragen werden. "I Eat Mainely Lobster" ist aus der Touring America Kollektion, die im Herbst 2011 herausgekommen ist. Ich habe sie aber letzten Freitag immer noch in einem Geschäft gesehen, also müsste sie immer noch erhältlich sein.

The colour is a fairly true coral which leans a bit orange in some lights and redder in others. Some artificial lighting makes it look a tad pink as well.
It has some tiny golden shimmer particles in the bottle, but they're hardly visible once on the nails. I reached opacity with two coats and lasting power was average. Overall, it's a fairly easily dupable shade, so if you missed out there's no need to despair.

Der Farbton ist ein klassisches Korallenrot, das in manchem Licht etwas ins Orange sticht und manchmal eher ins Rote. In künstlicher Beleuchtung sieht er oft auch ein bisschen pink aus.
Der Lack enthält winzige goldene Schimmerpartikel, die jedoch nur in der Flasche erkennbar sind und auf den Nägeln fast ganz verschwinden. Auf den Fotos trage ich zwei Schichten und die Haltbarkeit ist auch durchschnittlich. Alles in allem sollte es relativ einfach sein, Dupes für diese Farbe zu finden, also kein Grund zum verzweifeln wenn ihr sie nicht mehr finden könnt.

But now on to the most important question: How did I enjoy my first OPI polish?? To be honest with you, I'm not overly impressed with the formula. It's good, but no better than my beloved Rimmel or Barry M polishes which cost a fraction of the price. Needless to say, I love the quirky shade naming, though I'll be buying nail polish for the colour and not for the name from now on!

Aber nun zur Preisfrage: Wie gefiel mir mein erster OPI Nagellack?? Um ganz ehrlich zu sein, hat er mich nicht gerade umgehauen. Er ist gut, aber nicht besser als meine geliebten Rimmel oder Barry M Lacke und die kosten deutlich weniger. Natürlich liebe ich die lustigen Namen, aber von nun an werde ich mich wohl eher an der Farbe als am Namen orientieren, wenn ich mir einen neuen Lack kaufen will!

John Frieda Full Repair Shampoo and Conditioner Review

There were quite a few reviews of the Full Repair range floating about a while ago and as they were mainly positive I decided to give the shampoo and conditioner a go myself!

Vor einiger Zeit gab es recht viele Reviews von der Full Repair Reihe im Internet und da sie zumeist positiv ausfielen, beschloss ich, das Shampoo und die Spülung selbst auszuprobieren.

The range is quite easily available in both drugstores and supermarkets, so I could just pick these up along with my grocery shop. My hair is fairly thick but dry and the issue I have with most hair ranges is that they're either not moisturising enough or they weigh my hair down making it look flat. This range promises to deliver the perfect in-between: rich moisturisation while leaving hair somewhat alive.

Die Reihe ist gut erhältlich in Drogerien und Supermärkten, also konnte ich die bei einem meiner regelmäßigen Einkaufstrips mitnehmen. Mein Haar ist recht dick, aber trocken. Das Problem, das ich mit den meisten Haarprodukten habe, ist dass sie entweder nicht genug Feuchtigkeit spenden, oder meinem Haar jegliche Kraft rauben, sodass es völlig platt wird. Diese Reihe verspricht den perfekten Kompromiss: reichhaltige Pflege während noch etwas Leben im Haar bleibt.

Both the shampoo and conditioner come in travel friendly tubes and come in generous 250ml sizes. There's not much to say about the packaging other than that it does its job very well without looking cheap and tacky.

Sowohl das Shampoo als auch die Spülung sind in reisefreundlichen Tuben verpackt, die mit 250ml recht großzügig ausfallen. Es gibt nicht viel über die Verpackung zu sagen, außer dass sie ihren Zweck gut erfüllt ohne dabei billig auszusehen.

Both products have the same salon like smell which I find incredibly difficult to describe, so I hope you all know what I mean. The scent isn't too strong, so those with a sensitive nose should be alright to use this. Texture-wise both products are very average, with just enough slip for easy application without any dripping. They're both quite pleasant to use - the shampoo lathers well and the conditioner instantly softens my hair.

Beide Produkte haben diesen Frisörsalon-Geruch, den ich nur schwer beschreiben kann, also hoffe ich, dass ihr wisst, was ich meine. Der Geruch ist nicht allzu stark, also gut für die, die eine sensible Nase haben. Von der Konsistenz sind beide recht durchschnittlich und lassen sich gut auftragen ohne zu tropfen. Beide lassen sich angenehm auftragen - das Shampoo produziert reichlich Schaum und die Spülung macht meine Haare sofort schön weich.

Neither of these products quite delivered on the claim I mentioned above. They are very moisturising, yes, but they certainly weighed my hair down - a lot! I tried using them separately and I noticed that the conditioner isn't so bad, but the shampoo is the real offender here. I don't use any other hair products with these, no oils, sprays or styling products, as that would just be overkill, but my hair just doesn't feel nice afterwards. If I blowdry it it goes limp, but if I air dry it it gets downright greasy - and that's straight after washing!!
Everyone with very, very dry and frazzled hair: This is for you. I have seriously never tried a hair product this rich and that includes any deep conditioner or hair oil I've ever laid my hands upon. Everyone with oily or fine hair: Run. Do not touch this, ever. For those with normal or just dry, but not extremely dry hair you might be able to make this work if you use it sparingly, but I'd definitely not recommend it for everyday use.

Keines von den beiden hält jedoch seine Versprechungen ein. Sie sind zwar sehr reichhaltig, aber nicht ohne meine Haare zu beschweren! Ich hab sie mal einzeln ausprobiert und stellte fest, dass die Spülung nicht so schlimm ist, aber der Bösewicht ist das Shampoo. Ich benutze keine anderen Haarprodukte mit diesen beiden, also keine Öle, Sprays oder Stylingprodukte, weil das einfach der totale Overkill wäre. Wenn ich meine Haare hiernach föhne, werden sie platt und leblos, aber wenn ich sie an der Luft trockne, werden sie sogar richtig fettig - und das gleich nach dem Waschen!!
Alle von euch, die sehr, sehr trockenes und sprödes Haar haben: Diese zwei sind richtig für euch. Ich habe noch nie im Leben so ein reichhaltiges Haarprodukt getestet und damit meine ich auch jegliche Haarkuren und -öle, die ich jemals angefasst habe. Alle, die fettiges oder feines Haar haben: Lauft. Fasst diese Produkte ja nie an. Diejenigen, die normales oder "nur" trockenes und nicht extrem trockenes Haar haben, könnten mit ihnen zurechtkommen, wenn man sie nur ab und zu verwendet, aber auf keinen Fall würde ich dazu raten, sie täglich zu verwenden.

Good Things Dream Cream Review

This was the very first item I purchased from "Good Things" and I wish I could give you some fancy reason as to why I picked it up, but the truth is I needed a night cream and this had pretty packaging while not costing a fortune. Yes, that's really all there was to it.

Zum ersten Mal habe ich etwas von "Good Things" gekauft und ich würde euch gerne einen tollen Grund dafür geben, aber in Wahrheit brauchte ich einfach eine Nachtcreme und diese hatte eine schöne Verpackung ohne aber ein Vermögen zu kosten. Und das war es dann auch.

This cream comes housed in a plastic pot, which I know is a bit of an issue for some people who prefer more hygienic pumps or squeezy tubes. The upside of a pot however, is that you can get every last scrap of cream out of it without having to resort to chopping up the packaging. The drawings look very pretty, but in my opinion the white plastic and the poorly placed stickers make this look a tad cheap and it's not something I'd want to show off on my dressing table.

Die Creme kommt in einem Plastiktiegel, was für manche, die einen Pumpflakon oder eine Tube bevorzugen, ja ein kleines Hygieneproblem darstellen kann. Das Gute an so einem Tiegel ist aber, dass man jeden letzten Tropfen rausbekommt ohne die Verpackung zersägen zu müssen. Die Zeichnungen auf der Verpackung sehen zwar hübsch aus, doch meiner Meinung nach wirken das weiße Plastik und die schräg aufgeklebten Sticker etwas billig und ich würde so etwas nicht gerne auf meinem Schminktisch zur Schau stellen.

To be completely honest with you, this is a bit of a tough one for me to review. I've used it every night for a couple of weeks and I can't say that it performed any miracles, but on the upside it didn't break me out either. Please bear in mind that I have fairly normal skin which tends to react more to outside influences and lifestyle choices rather than cosmetic products. So, having said that, all I can really tell you about is how it felt on my skin directly after application and hopefully you'll find that informative enough to form an opinion. Everyone's skin is different after all!

Um ganz ehrlich zu sein, ist es etwas schwierig für mich, diese Creme zu bewerten. Ich habe sie ein paar Wochen lang jeden Abend aufgetragen und sie hat keine Wunder bewirkt, aber auch keine Pickel oder Irritationen ausgelöst. Bitte vergesst nicht, dass ich recht normale Haut habe, die eher auf äußere Einwirkungen und Lifestyleveränderungen reagiert als auf kosmetische Produkte. Alles, wovon ich also berichten kann, ist sich die Creme nach dem Auftragen auf meiner Haut angefühlt hat und hoffentlich hilft euch das, euch eine eigene Meinung zu bilden. Jeder hat schließlich andere Hautbedürfnisse.

Good Things say that this is a "light but nourishing" cream and I somewhat agree with that statement. It feels light and spreads easily, but it's most definitely a typical cream in texture. It takes quite a long time to sink into my skin and does leave a bit of a film on my face, but as it's a night cream that's still acceptable. By the time I wake up in the morning there's no residue left on my skin.
Very oily skin types may want to give this a miss, as it could be just a tad too rich, whereas dry and combination skin types should handle it fairly well. Very dry skin would probably need more moisture from a night cream than this can offer.

Good Things sagen, dass dies eine "leichte aber reichhaltige" Creme ist und im Prinzip würde ich dem zustimmen. Sie fühlt sich relativ leicht an lässt sich gut verteilen, ist von der Konsistenz her aber definitiv eine typische Creme. Sie braucht recht lange, um richtig einzuziehen und hinterlässt eine Art Film auf meinem Gesicht. Da es sich aber um eine Nachtpflege handelt, finde ich das akzeptabel, denn wenn ich morgens aufstehe, ist alles schön eingezogen.
Für sehr ölige Hauttypen ist sie nicht geeignet, denn für die ist sie doch etwas zu reichhaltig. Trockene und Mischhaut sollte hingegen gut mit dieser Creme zurechtkommen. Extrem trockene Haut würde wahrscheinlich mehr Feuchtigkeit benötigen, als dieses Produkt zu bieten hat.

Unfortunately, there's one negative that I just have to tell you about and that's the smell. The cream contains fig and avocado extracts and it smells... well, exactly how you would imagine fig and avocado to smell. First the sweet fig draws you in like some kind of deadly flesh-eating tropical flower and then you get hit by the avocado. It's just one sickly and in my opinion utterly disgusting mixture and to add insult to injury it doesn't just vanish once it's on your face, but lingers and sits there all around your nose.
Now, I wouldn't describe myself as overly sensitive to scents, but this nauseating smell is what's going to keep me from ever buying this again. If you think about purchasing this I would definitely recommend giving it a sniff first and if your stomach can tolerate the smell you may well have found yourself a pretty good night cream!

Leider gibt es einen Nachteil, von dem ich euch berichten muss und das ist der Geruch. Diese Creme enthält Feigen- und Avocadoextrakte und sie riecht... nun, genauso, wie man sich Feige und Avocado zusammen vorstellen würde. Erst zieht einen der süße Feigenduft an, wie irgendein tödliches, fleischfressendes Tropengewächs und dann wird man von der Avocado erschlagen. Es ist eine ekelhaft süße Mischung, die meiner Meinung nach nur Übelkeit hervorruft. Um jetzt noch Salz in die Wunde zu streuen, verfliegt der Geruch auch nicht so schnell, sobald er aufgetragen wurde, sondern hängt noch lange in der Nase.
Ich würde von mir nicht behaupten, dass ich sehr sensibel bin, was Gerüche angeht, aber der ekelerregende Geruch hiervon wird mich davon abhalten, diese Creme je wieder zu kaufen. Wenn ihr daran denkt, euch dieses Produkt anzuschaffen, dann würde ich euch raten, erst mal dran zu schnuppern und wenn euer Magen den Gestank ertragen kann, habt ihr möglicherweise eine recht gute Nachtpflege gefunden!

Look what I found! Benefit Lipstick in Lady's Choice

I have actually owned this lipstick for years - it was bought on a whim on the way home from one of my first days of uni and after a couple of wears I just kept it hidden somewhere in my stash never to see the daylight again. I rediscovered it about a month ago and it's been getting some well-deserved wear again.

Dieser Lippenstift ist schon jahrelang in meinem Besitz - es handelt sich hier um einen Spontankauf auf dem Nachhauseweg von einem meiner ersten Tage an der Uni. Ich benutzte ihn ein paarmal und schmiss ihn dann auf den Grund meines Haufens, wo er lange nicht mehr das Sonnenlicht erblickte. Etwa vor einem Monat habe ich ihn wiederentdeckt und seitdem wird er brav wieder getragen.

Benefit Lady's Choice is now a full-finish lipstick, so the packaging in the UK looks a bit different now, whereas in Germany they still sell it the way I bought it years ago. It comes in a sturdy weighted bullet with a shiny black exterior, which unfortunately (as you may see in the picture) is great at attracting dirt and fingerprints. The white swirly bits at the bottom prevent it from looking too plain and boring.

Benefit Lady's Choice sieht in Großbritannien, wo die Lippenstifte mittlerweile in zwei verschiedenen Formulierungen erhältlich sind, mittlerweile etwas anders aus. In Deutschland hingegen kriegt man ihn immer noch so wie er auf dem Foto aussieht. Er ist in einem stabilen, schweren schwarzen Gehäuse verpackt, dass leider (wie oben sichtbar) Schmutz und Fingerabdrücke nur so anzieht. Die weißen Streifen am unteren Ende verhindern, dass er allzu langweilig aussieht.

Both in bullet and on my hand it looks very brown, so what on earth posessed me to buy that shade will never know. Benefit describe this shade as "naturally nude", which makes much more sense once it's on the lips.

Sowohl unaufgetragen, als auch auf meiner Hand geswatcht sieht diese Farbe sehr braun aus. Was mich also veranleitet hat, diesen Farbton zu kaufen, bleibt wohl für immer ein Geheimnis. Benefit beschreibt ihn als "naturally nude" und das macht erst Sinn, wenn man den Lippenstift auf den Lippen aufgetragen sieht.

Once on the lips the colour turns into a milky nude with a slight sheen. The light yellow undertones make it surprisingly flattering on my pale skin, though I feel that it would look slightly pink on darker skintones making it universally flattering.

Auf den Lippen verwandelt sich die Farbe in ein sahniges Nude mit leichtem Glanz. Die hellgelben Untertöne sorgen dafür, dass es überraschend gut zu meiner blassen Haut passt, aber ich habe das Gefühl, dass es auf dunklerer Haut mehr ins hellpink stechen würde, was den Ton sehr schmeichelhaft macht.

It's soft and creamy to apply and feels very moisturising on the lips, though it's not particularly long lasting and would require frequent re-application.
Overall I feel this is a lovely nude lipstick shade which deserved a shout-out after being long forgotten in my stash!

Der Lippenstift ist weich und cremig und fühlt sich auf den Lippen sehr feuchtigkeitsspendend an. Leider hält er nicht besonders lange und man muss deshalb öfter nachschminken.
Alles in allem finde ich, dass es sich hier um einen tollen nude Lippenstift handelt, der sich nach so vielen Jahren Vernachlässigung endlich mal ein Shoutout verdient hat!

Simple Soothing Facial Toner Review

Ah yes, the age old question with toners... are they really a necessary step in a skincare regime or just a clever trick devised by beauty companies to drain more money out of their customers? When I first started looking after my skin and buying skincare every single girly magazine claimed they were absolutely essential, so the teenage me bought straight into it. Even though I question them now, I still feel like my morning and evening routine would be missing something if I didn't use a toner after cleansing. Nevertheless, I felt like maybe it wasn't completely necessary to spend upwards of £20 on them and decided to give this cheap and cheerful offering by Simple a go.

Ach ja, das uralte Dilemma mit Gesichtswassern... braucht man die wirklich, oder handelt es sich bei ihnen bloß um einen Trick der Kosmetikkonzerne, um noch mehr Geld aus ihren Kunden zu saugen? Als ich zum ersten Mal anfing, auf meine Haut zu achten und Kosmetikprodukte zu kaufen, behaupteten sämtliche Mädchenzeitschriften, dass Gesichtswasser unübergänglich ist und im zarten Teenager-Alter glaubte ich ihnen natürlich sofort. Obwohl ich mir mittlerweile nicht mehr ganz so sicher bin, glaube ich, ich würde es in meiner morgendlichen und abendlichen Routine vermissen. Trotzdem dachte ich mir, dass es wahrscheinlich nicht unbedingt notwendig ist, 25€ oder mehr für eine Flasche auszugeben und probierte dieses günstigere Angebot von Simple.

The Simple Soothing Facial Toner comes housed in a 200ml plastic bottle and will set you back a mere £2.99. The lid flips open to reveal a kind of squirty opening (yeah, I'm pretty sure that's the technical term for it...) which makes it easier to get the right amount out without spilling toner everywhere. I found this bottle just sturdy enough and it coped well with travelling without any spillage disasters in my suitcase.

Der Soothing Facial Toner von Simple ist in einer 200ml Plastikflasche verpackt und kostete mich bloß £2.99. Der Deckel kann aufgeklappt werden und darunter verbirgt sich so eine Spritzöffnung (ja, ich bin mir ziemlich sicher, dass das der Fachausdruck dafür ist...), wodurch es viel einfacher ist, die richtige Menge rauszubekommen, ohne dass später überall Gesichtswasser runtertropft. Meiner Erfahrung nach ist die Verpackung gerade stabil genug, dass sie auch Reisen gut vertrug ohne irgendwelche Tragödien in meinem Koffer zu veranstalten.

This is to be used by squirting a bit onto a cotton pad and wiping across the face after you take off your make-up and cleanse, but before moisturising. (Okay, you probably already knew that.) It claims to remove the last traces of make-up and refresh your skin in preparation for the following skincare step.
From my experience it does just that! Granted, my Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish does a great job at removing dirt and make-up, but this still manages to get the very last trace of rubbish out of my skin. It is colourless and almost scent-free (I can make out a very, very faint herbal scent if I stick my nose in the bottle) and unlike some other toners I've tried in the past it's neither sticky nor does it sting the skin in any delicate spots.

Man spritzt ein bisschen von diesem Gesichtswasser auf ein Wattepad und fährt damit übers Gesicht nachdem man das Make-up entfernt und das Gesicht gereinigt hat, aber bevor man eine Hautcreme aufträgt. (Okay, das wusstet ihr wahrscheinlich schon.) Es behauptet von sich, dass es letzte Make-up-Spuren entfernt und die Haut erfrischt in Vorbereitung auf den nächsten Schritt in der Hautpflege.
Meiner Erfahrung nach tut es genau das! Zugegeben, mein Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish lässt nicht viel Schmutz oder Make-up zurück, aber ich kriege hiermit trotzdem noch jede letzte Spur aus meiner Haut heraus. Es ist farb- und fast geruchlos (ich kann höchstens einen ganz, ganz schwachen Kräutergeruch wahrnehmen wenn ich meine Nase direkt in die Flasche stecke) und im Gegensatz zu anderen Gesichtswassern, die ich früher probiert hatte ist es weder klebrig, noch brennt es an empfindlichen Stellen der Haut.

This product is no miracle worker. It didn't transform my skin into a beauty model's post-Photoshop velvety blanket of perfection, but I highly doubt there's anything that would do that and I have to say fair play to Simple for not making any outrageous claims like some other companies do. This toner does exactly what it's supposed to do and I find it a pleasure to use.
It's so much cheaper than many inferior alternatives I've tried and it will last quite a long time, as well. I've had my bottle since the beginning of February and I've still got about three quarters left. Thumbs up for a solid, reliable and great quality product.

Dieser Toner ist kein Wunderprodukt. Es hat meine Haut nicht in das seidige Bild der Perketion verwandelt, dass auf Beautymodels nach einer guten Photoshopbehandlung zu sehen ist, aber so etwas gibt es schließlich nicht. Hut ab vor Simple, dass sie so einen Unsinn überhaupt nicht versprechen. Dieses Gesichtswasser tut genau das, was es verspricht und ich habe viel Vergnügen dabei, es zu benutzen.
Es ist so viel günstiger als andere, schlechtere Produkte die ich auch schon ausprobiert habe und reicht auch eine lange Zeit. Ich hatte diese Flasche schon seit Anfang Februar und es sind immer noch gute drei Viertel übrig. Daumen hoch für ein solides, verlässliches Produkt von toller Qualität.

Ich habe mir eine Flasche davon bei Boots in England geholt, wo man es auch in anderen Drogerien oder Supermärkten kriegen kann. Simple wird momentan in Großbritannien, den USA und Kanada verkauft und ist leider in Deutschland (noch?) nicht erhältlich. Schade.
