Illamasqua Medium Pencil in Elate

Funny little review for you today, as I'll be talking about a product I didn't even want. You see, I was CONVINCED that I bought a nice light nude/flesh coloured eye pencil, a shade I'd been hunting for for ages. Then I got home, unwrapped everything and realised that it was in fact a white pencil. I'm 100% sure that I asked for "Cane" but ended up with "Elate" in my bag. The problem is that I already own another white pencil which I don't even use an awful lot, as I feel the effect it gives is just a little too stark. Nevertheless, I didn't fancy driving back for another hour, so I just stuck with it.

Eine etwas eigensinnige Review habe ich für euch heute, denn ich stelle euch ein Produkt vor, das ich eigentlich überhaupt nicht wollte. Also, das war so: Ich war ÜBERZEUGT, dass ich einen hübschen Nude-/hautfarbenen Kajalstift gekauft hatte - etwas wonach ich schon längere Zeit gesucht hatte. Dann kam ich nach Hause, packte alles aus und saß plötzlich mit einem weißen Stift da. Ich bin mir hundertprozentig sicher, dass ich um "Cane" gebeten hatte, doch in meiner Einkaufstüte landete "Elate". Das Problem ist halt, dass ich schon einen anderen weißen Kajal habe und den benutze ich sowieso kaum, weil mir der Effekt einfach etwas zu stark ist. Dennoch hatte ich keine Lust, eine ganze Stunde lang wieder zurück in die Stadt zu fahren, also saß ich mit ihm fest.

Now if you were waiting for a turn in my little story where I exclaim, "I didn't want this, but now I love it!" then you'll be disappointed. I still don't love it. Buuuuut it's marginally better than my other white pencil (which is by Artdeco), so I got to give it some credit for that.

Wenn ihr jetzt erwartet, dass ich im nächsten Satz so etwas sage wie: "Ich wollte ihn nicht, aber jetzt liebe ich ihn!", dann muss ich euch leider enttäuschen. Ich liebe ihn nämlich nicht. Aaaaaber er ist schon etwas besser als mein anderer weißer Kajal (von Artdeco), also gibt es da schon Bonuspunkte.

Talking just about the pencil in general it is of very good quality. The texture is completely spot on. It is neither so hard that it tugs on the delicate skin in the eye area, nor is it so soft that it runs everywhere. Application is a very pleasant process as a result and it also allows you to work as precisely as you'd like, depending on how much you sharpen the tip.

Wenn man nur den Stift im Allgemeinen betrachtet, dann ist er schon von sehr guter Qualität. Die Konsistenz ist einfach nur perfekt. Er ist weder so hart, dass er an der empfindlichen Augenhaut zerrt, noch ist er so weich, dass er überall verläuft. Das Auftragen wird somit zu einer sehr angenehmen Angelegenheit und man kann auch so präzise arbeiten, wie man möchte, je nachdem, wie stark der Stift zugespitzt ist.

Sharpening itself is a quick and easy process, though as with all wooden pencils you do lose some product every time you sharpen it. However, it's been bashing about in my make-up bag for a while and I haven't had it break, snap or crumble on me yet. After application it lasts about 6 hours on me, regardless of whether I wear it on the lashline, eye lid or on the water line. Six hours on the lid is fairly average, but six hours on the water line is actually really good, so I am impressed!

Das Spitzen an sich ist ein schneller und einfacher Prozess, doch wie bei allen Holzstiften geht etwas vom Produkt bei jedem Anspitzen verloren. Jedoch hat er jetzt längere Zeit in meiner Make-up-Tasche so Einiges durchmachen müssen und er ist trotzdem nicht zerbrochen oder zerkrümelt. Nach dem Auftragen hält er bei mir etwa sechs Stunden, egal ob ich ihn am Wimpernkranz, auf dem Augenlid, oder auf dem Innenlid auftrage. Sechs Stunden auf dem Lid ist eher durchschnittlich, aber sechs Stunden auf dem Innenlid ist eine sehr gute Leistung; ich bin beeindruckt!

"Elate" is described as a pure white and I couldn't agree more. It is very pigmented for a white pencil - no half-arsed bit of waxy transparency here - so it will allow you to create some fairly dramatic looks should you want to use it for that. Unfortunately I didn't want a white eye liner because I was looking for something LESS dramatic, so I just can't find it in me to love this shade. I do wear it from time to time on days where I look positively dead and it does help to make me look less... well, dead.

 "Elate" wird als pures Weiß beschrieben und dem könnte ich nicht mehr zusprechen. Für einen weißen Kajalstift ist er sehr pigmentiert - keine lustlose wachsige Transparenz hier - und könnte somit gut für dramatische Looks eingesetzt werden, sollte jemand das Bedürfnis danach haben. Leider wollte ich aber gerade deswegen keinen weißen Liner, weil ich etwas WENIGER Dramatisches wollte, also kann ich mich einfach nicht dazu bringen, diese Farbe zu lieben. Ab und an trage ich sie schon auf, beispielsweise an Tagen, an denen ich entschlossenerweise tot aussehe und der Stift hilft mir dabei weniger...nun ja, tot... auszusehen.


Aside from that, a very good product and I'd happily repurchase it in any other colour, but next time I'll make double sure I get the right shade!

Davon einmal abgesehen, handelt es sich hier um ein hervorragendes Produkt, das ich mir sehr gerne jederzeit in einer anderen Farbe nachkaufen würde, doch beim nächsten Mal passe ich halt besonders darauf auf, dass ich auch den richtigen Ton bekomme!

L'Oréal False Lash Telescopic Mascara Review

One of the beautiful things about being a beauty blogger is that I hear people raving about certain products I never would have glanced at, which results in me buying them and sometimes completely falling in love with them. L'Oréal's Telescopic mascara is one of those things that has received many rave reviews in the beauty community, but if it wasn't for that I would have walked straight past it. Unfortunately L'Oréal doesn't really speak to me as a brand. I often find their products very old-fashioned and outdated, so I was excited to see if this mascara would live up to the hype it's created.

Eins der großen Vorteile des Beauty-Bloggens ist, dass ich oft von Produkten höre, die ich so nie probiert hätte und mich dann nach dem Einkauf oft vollkommen in sie verliebe. L'Oréal Telescopic Mascara ist eins von den Dingen, von denen überall nur geschwärmt wurde, doch ich wäre normalerweise direkt daran vorbeigelaufen. Leider spricht mich L'Oréal als Marke überhaupt nicht an. Ich finde die Produkte oft sehr altbacken und überholt, also war ich aufgeregt, herauszufinden, ob der Hype um diese Wimperntusche berechtigt ist.

I picked up the "Clean Definition" one, as that's what I usually go for in a mascara. (There seem to be some naming issues which you can read about right at the end of this post.) I want my lashes to be long and separated and I'm not overly bothered about volume and curl.
The packaging is actually quite interesting, as the tube is shaped like a telescope, relating to the mascara's name. This variety has a silver chrome-like exterior which attracts dirt and finger prints like nothing else, so please excuse the extremely grubby pictures (I was also in a huge rush when I took them).

Ich habe mir die "Clean Definition"-Version geholt, da ich so etwas normalerweise von einer Mascara verlange. (Die Namensgebung ist hier etwas eigenartig; ich erzähle mehr dazu ganz am Ende.) Ich möchte, dass meine Wimpern lang und gut getrennt sind, während mir Volumen und Schwung relativ egal sind.
Die Verpackung ist eigentlich ganz interessant, da die Tube wie ein Teleskop geformt ist, in Anspielung auf den Namen. Diese Gattung hat ein silbernes, chromähnliches Äußeres, das Schmutz und Fingerabdrücke wie ein Magnet anzieht, also entschuldigt bitte die verdreckten Fotos (Ich hatte es auch furchtbar eilig, als ich sie geschossen habe).

As you'd expect from a lengthening and "clean definition" mascara, it has a rubber type wand with fairly short plastic bristles, though not as short as, say MaxFactor False Lash or Covergirl Lashblast. Oddly enough, the wand also bends if you press down on it, which seems a weird gimmick to add to be honest. I have no intention of ramming it into my eye hard enough to make it bend, so I don't know where the added flexibility would add anything.

Wie man von einer verlängernden und "Clean Definition" Mascara erwarten würde, hat sie ein Gummibürstchen mit recht kurzen Plastikborsten, die jedoch nicht ganz so kurz sind, wie beispielsweise MaxFactor False Lash oder Covergirl Lashblast. Merkwürdigerweise lässt sich das Bürstchen auch biegen, wenn man draufdrückt, was ich etwas eigenartig finde. Ich habe nicht vor, es so stark in mein Auge zu rammen, dass es sich verbiegen könnte, also weiß ich nicht so recht, wobei diese extra-Flexibilität eigentlich helfen soll.

The formula is on the drier side, though I have experienced absolutely no flaking from it throughout the day. Unless I manage to smear some on my eyelid upon application (which happens often enough, but that's not L'Oréal's fault) it will stay put without running or smudging. Nevertheless it's easy enough to remove at the end of the day, so a definite thumbs up from me for that!

Die Konsistenz liegt auf der trockenen Seite, doch sie hat beim Tragen noch nie gekrümelt. Es gibt den ganzen Tag lang kein Verschmieren oder Verlaufen, außer wenn ich beim Auftragen mein Lid erwische (und das passiert leider etwas zu oft, aber daran sind L'Oréal nicht schuld). Trotzdem ist es sehr leicht, die Tusche abends zu entfernen, also gibt es in dieser Hinsicht ein definitives Daumen hoch!

The effect it gives is quite nice - very natural, lengthened lashes that are perfect for day time. There's absolutely no clumping and the clean definition that it promises is definitely there. Believe it or not, the picture above actually shows several layers of mascara (three or four, I'm not so sure anymore) and that's the only bad thing I have to say about this product, really: It's just really hard work. The wand doesn't grab onto lashes very well and coupled with the dry formula it means you're stood there applying for a good five minutes before there is any noticeable difference on the lashes.

Der Effekt ist ganz nett - sehr natürliche, verlängerte Wimpern, also ideal für tagsüber. Es gibt keinerlei Klümpchen und die "Clean Definition", die sie verspricht, ist auf jeden Fall erkennbar. Kaum zu glauben, aber das Bild weiter oben zeigt mehrere Schichten Mascara (drei oder vier, ich bin mir nicht mehr sicher) und das ist das einzige, was ich an diesem Produkt auszusetzen habe: es macht viel Arbeit. Das Bürstchen greift sich die Wimpern nicht so gut und zusammen mit der trockenen Konsistenz heißt das, dass man gute fünf Minuten da steht und Mascara aufträgt, ehe auf den Wimpern irgendein Unterschied erkennbar ist. 

Now, the naming completely confuses me. I bought this one in Germany and it says "Telescopic Clean Definition", yet when I look it up online it now seems to be called "False Lash Extensions". In the UK it's called "False Lash Telescopic" and all three seem to be one and the same product. Anyone got any light to shed on this?

Der Name verwirrt mich sehr. Ich habe meine Tube in Deutschland gekauft und drauf steht "Telescopic Clean Definition", doch online heißt sie jetzt auf einmal "False Lash Extensions". In der UK heißt sie "False Lash Telescopic" und alle drei scheinen ein und dasselbe Produkt zu sein. Hat irgendjemand eine Idee, was hier vor sich geht?

Clinique All About Eyes Review

I have briefly raved about this a few times and it's also made it into my favourites post from April, so it's about time I did a full review on this eye cream. The reason I haven't done that yet is because I've actually been inundated with samples of this and now is the first time I had to go to a shop and buy a full size!

Ich habe schon mehrmals kurz hiervon geschwärmt und sogar in meinem April-Favoriten Post davon gesprochen, also ist es endlich mal an der Zeit für eine volle Review dieser Augencreme. Der Grund, aus dem ich noch nie einen Post hierüber veröffentlicht habe, ist, dass ich so viele Pröbchen hatte und jetzt erst in ein Geschäft gehen musste, um mir die volle Größe zu kaufen.

Before I tried this I was actually fairly sceptical about eye creams. They seemed like a bit of a waste of money, especially considering I don't have to worry about wrinkles yet. My only concern were those horrible dark circles that wouldn't go away no matter how much sleep I got. Surely the only cream that could remedy those would be a concealer? Wrong!

Vor dem Ausprobieren dieser Creme war ich Augencremes gegenüber recht skeptisch eingestellt. Sie schienen mir etwas wie Geldverschwendung, vor allem da ich mir über Fältchen noch keine Sorgen machen musste. Mein einziges Problem waren diese fürchterlichen dunklen Ringe unter den Augen, die einfach nicht weg wollten, egal wie viel ich schlief. Sicher konnte da doch lediglich Concealer helfen? Falsch gedacht!

Granted, this doesn't get rid of all dark circles and puffiness. It's not so miraculous that I could forgo concealer entirely, so don't expect any miracles. But it helps. And of all the eye creams I've tried so far, this is the only one that actually makes a difference. So as long as I apply this morning and night and make sure I drink loads of water, the concealing part of my make-up routine becomes a whole lot easier and quicker.

Zugegeben, die Creme wird dunkle Ringe und Schwellungen nicht vollkommen los. Sie ist nicht dermaßen magisch, dass ich auf Concealer ganz verzichten könnte, also erwartet keine Wunder. Aber sie hilft. Und von all den Augencremes, die ich bisher ausprobiert habe, ist sie die einzige, die eine sichtbare Verbesserung hervorruft. So lange ich sie morgens und abends auftrage und reichlich Wasser trinke, geht das mit dem Abdecken viel schneller und einfacher.

Clinique All About Eyes is a lightweight gel-cream hybrid which is best applied with the ring finger in a tapping motion all around the eyes and on the lids. Upon application I can feel my skin freshen up and tighten straight away which is a blissful feeling, particularly in the mornings. It sinks in very quickly, so you can apply make-up almost straight away without having to worry about it sliding around due to a greasy base.

Clinique All About Eyes ist ein leichtes Creme-Gel-Hybrid, welches man am besten mit dem Ringfinger in die Haut rund um die Augen und aufs Lid aufklopft. Sobald es aufgetragen wird, merke ich sofort wie meine Haut sich erfrischt und zusammenzieht. Das fühlt sich himmlisch an, vor allem am müden Morgen. Es zieht sehr schnell ein und man kann von daher fast sofort Make-up drüber auftragen, ohne sich um eine von der Creme hinterlassene Fettschicht Sorgen machen zu müssen.

The packaging is a sturdy plastic pot which more than fulfills its purpose and is fairly pretty to look at, though some people may not like having to dip their finger in cream each time. As with all pots you'll be scraping cream off the bottom of the lid for a while if you decide to take it on travels.
The scent isn't particularly pleasant unfortunately - a kind of sweet medicinal smell, though you'll only smell it if you sniff it on purpose and not upon application.

Die Verpackung besteht aus einem soliden Plastiktiegel, der seine Rolle mehr als erfüllt und nebenbei noch ganz hübsch aussieht. Einigen mag es jedoch nicht gefallen, dass man jedes Mal seinen Finger in die Creme tauchen muss. Wie bei allen Tiegeln muss man immer reichlich Creme von der Unterseite des Deckels kratzen, sollte man ihn mit auf Reisen nehmen.
Der Geruch ist leider nicht besonders angenehm - er ist süß und recht pharmazeutisch, doch glücklicherweise merkt man davon nur was, wenn man gezielt an der Creme schnuppert. Beim bloßen Auftrag rieche ich nichts. 

The thing about Clinique that I feel I have to mention is that they're not the gentlest of cosmetic brands and for a lot of people the chemicals used in their products are just too harsh. I raved and raved about this cream and recommended it to my mum, but when she tried it she got an allergic reaction all around her eyes!
So, generally speaking, I think this is a fabulous product and I would really recommend it, but not without caution. I'd say if you want to try it, go to a Clinique counter and ask for a little sample to take home with you (they ought to have loads, considering how long I survived on just sample pots of this!), so you can try it before you buy.

Das Problem mit Clinique, auf das ich unbedingt aufmerksam machen muss, ist dass es nicht unbedingt die sanfteste Kosmetikfirma ist und für Viele sind die in ihren Produkten enthaltenen Chemikalien einfach viel zu aggressiv. Ich habe von dieser Creme geschwärmt und geschwärmt und meiner Mutter immer wieder empfohlen, doch als sie sie ausprobierte kriegte sie einen allergischen Ausschlag rund ums Auge!
Im Grunde finde ich, dass es sich hier um ein wunderbares Produkt handelt und ich würde es wirklich gerne empfehlen, aber nicht ganz ohne Warnung. Wenn ihr die Creme ausprobieren wollt, dann würde ich euch empfehlen, zu einem Clinique-Stand zu gehen und euch eine Probe hiervon geben zu lassen. (Es muss Tonnen davon geben, wenn man bedenkt wie lange ich Pröbchen hiervon benutzt habe!) So könnt ihr sie zunächst mal ausprobieren ohne dabei im schlimmsten Fall Geld verschwendet zu haben. 


Clinique have also brought out a rich version of this and a serum which comes as a stick rather than in a pot. I'm tempted to try them, but I know that this one works and wouldn't want to waste money on other versions in case they're not as good! Clinique haben hiervon auch eine reichhaltige Version und ein Serum in Stiftformat herausgebracht. Es reizt mich schon, die auszuprobieren, aber ich weiß, dass diese Creme funktioniert und es wäre schade, mein Geld für eine andere Version auszugeben, wenn die nicht so toll ist.
